In Harrachov and keen to get into nature without planning a strenuous day hike? The Mumlava Waterfalls (Mumlavský vodopád) are exactly that. The path follows the Mumlava river through the forest and makes a perfect morning, an afternoon after you arrive, or a quiet day during your holiday in the Krkonoše Mountains.
No ridge walk, no long planning – sturdy shoes, clothing for the weather and a little time are enough. That simplicity, and how close it is to Harrachov, make the falls worth a visit even on a short weekend.

Why the walk to the Mumlava Waterfalls is worth it
The Mumlava Waterfalls are among the best-known waterfalls on the Czech side of the Krkonoše Mountains. The river drops around ten metres over a broad granite step, surrounded by forest, rocks and the constant rush of mountain water. What makes the trip so popular is the combination of a real natural sight with a path almost anyone can walk.
From the centre of Harrachov you simply follow the Mumlava upstream. The wide, comfortable path is well signposted, there is hardly any climb, and the river’s rapids and boulders invite you to stop along the way. Near the falls there is a mountain hut serving refreshments.
A trip for families, couples and an easy day
With children the Mumlava Waterfalls are a sure hit: the path is short enough not to tire anyone, and the river keeps things interesting. Couples enjoy the quiet forest path and the chance to combine the walk with a coffee in Harrachov or an evening in the hotel’s wellness area.
Even if you are not a hiker, go: it is a pleasant stroll, not a march. If you want more, you can continue from the falls up the Mumlava valley towards the ridge.

When to visit the Mumlava Waterfalls
The falls are accessible all year. In high season and at weekends they are among the busiest spots around Harrachov – if you want peace, start in the morning or pick a weekday.
In spring, after the snowmelt, the Mumlava carries the most water; in autumn the forest turns golden; in winter the falls partly freeze. After rain the path can be wet in places, so sturdy shoes are always a good idea. In winter expect mountain conditions.
What to bring
- sturdy shoes – even in summer, the path can be damp,
- clothing for the weather; the forest is often cooler than the town,
- something to drink and a snack, especially with children,
- time – allow two to three hours including stops.
