Harrachov is not only a ski town: glass has been blown here since 1712, and the glassworks in Nový Svět is the oldest still-working glassworks in Bohemia. On a guided tour you watch the glassblowers at the furnaces, visit the glass museum and stop at the on-site brewery. A trip that works even in the rain – and only a few minutes’ walk from Hotel Šedý Vlk.

What to expect at the glassworks
The tour takes you straight into production: you stand by the furnaces and watch glowing glass become glasses, vases and goblets – by hand, as it was 300 years ago. There is a museum with historic pieces, a factory shop selling Harrachov glass, and a restaurant with a small brewery. For children the tour is short and exciting; for adults it is a piece of Bohemian industrial history.
A trip for any weather
In autumn and on rainy days the glassworks is the ideal plan. Combine the visit with a stroll through Harrachov, the ski jumping hills or – in good weather – the walk to the Mumlava Waterfalls. Everything is within walking distance.

Why stay at Hotel Šedý Vlk?
Because a day trip to Harrachov is too short. From the hotel you reach the glassworks, the centre, the hiking trails and the ski slope on foot. Half-board is included, so is the heated pool, and the private Finnish sauna is booked at reception. For a weekend from Prague – about two hours away – it is the most convenient option.
What else to combine with the visit
- the walk to the Mumlava Waterfalls (about 1.5 hours there and back)
- the ski jumping hills with the ski flying hill
- the chairlift up Čertova hora (in summer)
- in winter the slope right at the hotel – see skiing in Harrachov
